With the important warranty information out of the way, let’s now kick off our 9 Tips on How to Care for Your Electric Trolley!

1. Check for wear or damage

Regardless of how your Electric Trolley is performing, check it for damage. Whether this is the handle, the wheels, the axles, the charger or the battery, be sure to carry out a periodical check-up of your machine.

This should help locate any issues before they become serious or impact you while out on the course.

2. Use the correct charger

A charger is provided with your trolley for a reason, because it is the right one for your battery! Do not attempt to use a charger other than the one specifically designed for your make and model.

Doing so could impact the performance of your battery and is potentially dangerous.

IMPORTANT: If you suspect your charger is damaged or has suffered water damage, do not charge!

3. Turn on the battery to charge

One of the biggest queries we receive in Halpenny Golf is from customers whose batteries have no charge. What we often find is that the customer has not charged their battery correctly.

Please ensure the switch has been moved to on when it is charging.

4. Charge the battery as soon as possible after each use

Regardless of how many holes you have played, the advice is to charge the battery within 24 hours.

Failure to do so may result in reduced performance.

5. Store the battery in suitable conditions

It is important to store your battery in suitable conditions to preserve optimum performance.

Powakaddy outline to store their batteries between -5oC and 40oC.

Motokaddy outline to store their batteries between 10oC and 30oC.

6. Do not submerge the battery in water

Playing golf in wet conditions is fine but do not submerge the battery in water such as a lake. When cleaning the battery use a damp cloth.

IMPORTANT: If you suspect your charger is damaged or has suffered water damage, do not charge!

7. Do not charge the battery for extended periods or overnight

While your Lithium battery will have a cut-off point to ensure no overcharging or overheating, it is still best not to leave your battery charging for extended periods or overnight.

This is greener and safer as you are not leaving an electrical device charging unsupervised.

8. Test the battery and the trolley

Maybe your trolley is moving slower than normal. Maybe it’s not moving at all. If you have noticed an issue or a deterioration in the performance of your electric trolley, test it.

Take a friend’s battery for the same trolley and put it into yours. This way you will be able to figure out if the problem is with the battery or the trolley itself.

9. Half charge when storing

At times we have to take a break from golf. Whether it’s due to injury, travel or cold, wet winters, spells away from the game are inevitable.

In order to look after your electric trolley as effectively as possible during this time, ensure that it is stored at half charge. The best way to achieve this is by playing a round of golf and then charging it for 1.5 – 2 hours.

If for whatever reason you are unable to carry out a half charge, storing it at full charge is the next best scenario.
